Concerts 2007-2008 Season

Hover Chamber Choir of Armenia

A range of concerts have been performed by Hover, some of which have included a summer season of singing on the steps of the Cascade, presentations of Aigektsi’s Six Fables, singing in many monasteries around Armenia, private receptions, Carol singing and more.

Below is an example of what Hover can offer, the range and variety:

Choral Concerts: Armenian sacred & folk music throughout the ages

In the summer of 2003, on the steps of the Cascade, Yerevan Hover performed to the general public on Friday evenings, as the sun was setting. They performed a range of Armenian traditional music interspersed with some light music, in order that tourists and residents alike could partake in some Friday evening concerts. It was also the first time where a choir from Armenia performed outdoors to the general public.

Musical-theatrical presentations: Vardan Aigektsi

Hover's most recent offering is an outdoor musical-theatrical production based on the Christian fables of the medieval Armenian parable-writer Vardan Aigektsi. Combining singing, instrumental music, narrative, theatre and dance, in both traditional Armenian and non-traditional settings, the choir brings music to life for its audiences with this production. It portrays the seven cardinal Christian virtues in a uniquely Armenian way. With original music by Stephan Babatorosyan, hand-made costumes and masks, authentic instrumental accompaniment, and hand-held stage props, the production is reminiscent of travelling troupes of ages past, performances being held in public arenas for the entertainment and enlightenment of audiences young and old.

Armenian Church Sung Liturgy

Wherever Hover goes in the world, Armenians flock, and no singing Armenian is complete without the ability to sing the sung liturgy, composed by Komitas a champion for Armenian music who died tragically in Paris following a lifetime experienced through the Armenian genocide.
